Martin Scorsese hasn't made a movie for a while, and it's good to see that he's getting back to work with something as inherently exciting - and potentially cinematic - as Silence. Based on a novel first written in 1966 by Japanese author Shūsaku Endo. Silence tells the story of two Jesuit priests who travel to Japan to seek out their mentor. In Scorsese's movie version, said priests are to be played by the likes of Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield, which sounds like an awesome team-up if ever there was one. The novel is a highly regarded one, and was met with a lot of awards and prizes upon its first release in the '60s. That said, it's fallen into something resembling obscurity over the years on account of its age and religious themes. Scorsese has been trying to get this project off of the ground for over 5 years, however, which suggests it as a major passion project for the man who brought us Goodfellas. Except this to hit cinemas in early 2016 - with an inevitable Best Picture nod the following year. Are there any more upcoming movies that are secretly based on books? Share them down in the comments.
