10 Upcoming Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Books
7. Black Mass
Black Mass sounds like a science-fiction horror movie from the 1950s, but that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, it's an upcoming motion picture directed by Scott Cooper (best known for directing Crazy Heart), which tells the "the true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston." Bulger, who is set to be played by none other than Johnny Depp, eventually took up life as an FBI informant and - across the span of 30 years - set out to stop a influential Mafia family. Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson are also set to star, which is good. The story will be adapted from the non-fiction book Black Mass: The True Story Of An Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob (luckily they just went with "Black Mass" for the title of the movie) and will hopefully will help Johnny Depp to earn back some credibility after the likes of Mortdecai. According to the images glimpsed so far, Depp also looks utterly mental in this role.
