If you're into your modern Japanese cinema, chances are you've come across the name Hirokazu Kore-eda.

His films Like Father, Like Son, and Shoplifters are amongst some of the best the nation has produced in the last decade, and Kore-eda is absolutely rolling in it when it comes to awards.

Where does he fit them all?

His 2022 film Broker was also a smash. If his upcoming 2023 release is also successful, he might need to think about moving to a bigger house.

Whilst Broker was a South Korean movie, Monster will mark Kore-eda's return to Japanese cinema for the first time since 2018. He's got some strong allies in his corner, as the project is being written by prolific Japanese screenwriter Yuji Sakamoto and produced by Genki Kawamura, who brought the world A Hundred Flowers.

That's the name of a film - he didn't just hand out millions of flowers to everyone across the globe.

Unfortunately, plot and cast details are being kept firmly under wraps for now, but the names involved in this movie are enough to make Monster a must-catch for an fans of the Land of the Rising Sun.
