10 Upcoming Remakes That Might Actually Be Great

9. How to Train Your Dragon

Possession 1981
Paramount Pictures

It's fair to say that nobody needed a live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, and considering Disney's rather lackluster spate of live-action takes on their most beloved animations, it's certainly reasonable to be skeptical of Universal's efforts here.

But there is one major plus to this remake - it's being written and directed by Dean DeBlois, who served as a writer and director on all three prior animated How to Train Your Dragon films.

So, it's fair to say that DeBlois probably understands what made the original movie work better than anyone else, even if this is his first foray into live-action filmmaking. He clearly knows how to tell this story and deliver breathtaking visuals, and in a neat wrinkle, Gerard Butler will return to portray the very same character he voiced in the animated movies, Stoick the Vast.

As live-action remakes of classic animations go, this one's certainly ticking a lot of boxes without throwing up any obvious red flags.
