10 Upcoming Remakes That Might Actually Be Great
7. Highlander
There's no denying the indelible cult appeal of 1986's fantasy actioner Highlander, and though its success on home video led to four sequels and two spin-off TV shows, the franchise has more-or-less laid dormant since 2007.
But the very next year, Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to the IP and announced that a remake was in the works. Development of the new Highlander stalled for years until 2016, when John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski was confirmed to be directing.
Given Stahelski's phenomenal success with the John Wick franchise and his promise that his Highlander would be "John Wick with swords," it's easy to be excited about this. Furthermore, Henry Cavill has been cast to play the lead role of Connor MacLeod, while Michael Fassbender is reportedly being eyed for the villain.
Honestly, what's not to like about this? With Stahelski leading the charge, there's every chance this remake takes Highlander in a bold new direction rather than simply trying to imitate what came before.
