10 Upcoming Remakes That Might Actually Be Great

4. High & Low

Remaking any Akira Kurosawa film is basically a thankless task, and so the prospect of anyone deciding to re-do his classic crime thriller High and Low isn't an immediately appealing one. Or it wouldn't be, except for the fact that it's being helmed by the great Spike Lee, who will be reunited once again with Denzel Washington, starring alongside Jeffrey Wright.

It's basically impossible not to be intrigued by those three names alone, which should at least ensure that this remake is far from a by-the-book retread of the original. It's also being distributed by A24, and accepting their mighty track record, it's entirely possible this will end up a serious player in next year's awards race.

Even if not, Lee's presence alone makes it easy to appreciate that it'll be far from a sacrilegious remake that disrespects the original - if nothing else, it's going to have the distinct personality of any Spike Lee Joint.
