10 Upcoming Remakes That Might Actually Be Great

3. Creature from the Black Lagoon

Over the last 40 years, there have been countless scrapped attempts to remake legendary monster movie Creature from the Black Lagoon, with the likes of John Carpenter, Ivan Reitman, and Guillermo del Toro notably taking a crack at it to no avail.

But back in August, James Wan was confirmed to be mounting the latest attempt at a remake, and given Wan's history of steering troubled productions out of pure disaster territory - looking at you, Furious 7 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - there's a strong chance it actually goes before cameras this time.

Considering Wan's penchant for producing smart, visually striking, and fearlessly off-the-wall horror films from Saw to Malignant, he's certainly an interesting pick to helm this remake. There's no word yet on who will be playing the two lead roles, though back in 2020 Universal was busily courting Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans to appear in a different version of the remake. It'd certainly be interesting to see the A-list duo working with a filmmaker as irreverent as Wan, as unlikely as that is to happen.
