10 Upcoming Sequels And Reboots That Will Destroy Your Faith In Cinema
4. Friday The 13th
Due for release on Friday 13th May 2016 (even though the script was completed in July 2015), little is known about the 13th Friday movie, which might be a prequel or found footage (it's not a direct sequel), but this much you can take to the bank – it’s another Platinum Dunes production, so it’ll be as sluggish and patience-testing as all their other films.
Whether remaking The Hitcher or A Nightmare On Elm Street or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Platinum Dunes achieves the feat of sucking all the life out of a franchise and poisoning the well for years to come, which is partly the reason why there hasn’t been an excursion to Crystal Lake since 2009. Another reason is rights issues, but few box office hits were savaged as spectacularly as Marcus Nispel’s reboot.
The New York Daily News wrote: “The girls act like porn stars, the guys are potheads or playas and anyone bending down and standing up again gets decapitated.” The Los Angeles Times diagnosed the movie as “missing nearly everything that made the original films work”, and who’s to say this sequel/reboot/whatever will be any different?
