The Last Boy Scout director Tony Scott may have propelled When Harry Met Sally starlet Meg Ryan to superstardom via a supporting role in 1986's Top Gun, but it's easy to understand why the actor turned down the opportunity to return for the forthcoming sequel.
After all, original helmer Scott passed away tragically a few years ago, and with over three decades separating the franchise instalments it's fair to say the lives of the film's characters will have moved on quite a bit in the intervening years.
Ryan meanwhile has transitioned to spending more time behind the camera than in front, having directed her debut feature film Ithaca in 2015.
