10 "Upcoming" Sequels You Didn't Know Had Been Shelved

2. Shrek 5

It's A Sequel To: Shrek Forever After (2010) After Shrek 2, the once witty fairly tale franchise started to go downhill - to the point where people were saying: "Did we used to like Shrek? What the hell is this rubbish?" As a result, there hasn't been a Shrek movie in 5 years, and despite claims from the studio - DreamWorks Animation - that Shrek wasn't done with, it's been relatively quiet on the sequel front. At one point, it was outright cancelled, but if you happen to have a memory like a hawk for any reason, you might remember that all the way back in early 2014, studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg teased fans of the franchise with the following enigmatic statement:
"We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest. But I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the 'Shrek' series. We're not finished, and more importantly, neither is he."
Silence ever since. So either people are working very, very quietly on Shrek 5, or - and this is more likely - the project is struggling to develop into anything noteworthy. A year of no news pretty much confirms that Shrek 5 has been shelved for an indefinite period of time, then.
