1. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Release Date: August 23rd
Why It's Going To Fail: More supernatural fantasy tosh adapted from a series of popular teen novels comes our way with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and if you've seen the trailer, it seems like you've seen the film. More insipid teen drama, more terrible acting, ropey visual effects, and basically everything that characterises every tween novel franchise adapted in the shadow of Twilight. It seems overly portentous and self-serious, which is often the worst complaint you can make about these sorts of films; if they have a little self-awareness and sense of humour about themselves - see: the surprisingly delightful Beautiful Creatures - then they can in fact work. Will it make money? Yes, probably (though, surprisingly, Beautiful Creatures was a rare teen novel flop), but I imagine its critical consensus will be on par with Twilight (within the 20-40% range). Needless to say, it looks mechanical and exceptionally dull. What films are you
