10 Upcoming Summer Blockbusters Doomed To Fail

8. World War Z

World War ZRelease Date: June 21st Why It's Going To Fail: Though Max Brooks' source material is highly acclaimed, the production of World War Z has been troubled from the outset. Filming began almost 2 years ago, and then in May of last year, it was announced that the production would be returning to Budapest for 7 weeks of re-shoots, which even if you're not familiar with the practice is enough to have alarm bells ringing. What could possibly be wrong with the film to warrant such extensive re-shoots? Well, the month after this announcement was made, Damon Lindelof was hired to re-write the entire third act (but then ran out of time and let Drew Goddard take over), and it then turned out that some of the scenes they shot in Budapest had to eventually be cut because of their political overtones. What a waste. In short, the production sounds like a mess, and given how underwhelming Marc Forster's last foray into action went (Quantum of Solace), it's safe to say this one has a strong chance of flopping. Trailers so far haven't raised hopes much - the visual effects look horrendous - though zombies are still in vogue, so it might scrape a modest profit.
