7. White House Down
Release Date: June 28th (US), September 6th (UK)
Why It's Going To Fail: Yes, the gritty reboot of Olympus Has Fallen is almost here! All jokes aside, the year's two "Die Hard in the White House" flicks were competing throughout production to see who would make it to the screen first, and Antoine Fuqua's R-rated Olympus won out, yet despite surprisingly decent reviews, it failed to make much back past its profit. White House Down benefits from having Channing Tatum as its lead actor, and the PG-13 rating certainly makes it more financially viable, though the massive $150m budget is over double that of Olympus, meaning that it still has quite the mountain to climb. Furthermore, if audiences didn't really take to
one White House-based action movie, what's to say they will take to another so soon after, especially when it will be released just as Olympus is about to arrive on home video in the US? That, and of the two White House movies this year, this one definitely looks like the worst. Oh, and Roland Emmerich is directing it - what else do you need to know?
