8. Earth Girls Are Easy (1988)
Two years after starring together in ‘The Fly’, Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum (who were married at this point) shared the screen again. Goldblum plays a hairy, horny alien who, along with the equally hairy and possibly hornier, Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans crashes a spaceship into a swimming pool. This movie is just all over the place! Rated PG, despite the movie’s dialogue been almost completely about sex, there are song and dance numbers and some slapstick comedy.
The cover definitely stood out; a great use of colour and it’s pretty straightforward, too - “Hey, look at these funny aliens, and this (we assume) easy earth girl”. However, once the movie starts, even with a total assault on the senses from the bright, colourful visuals to the loud, obnoxious soundtrack, amazingly, ‘Earth Girls are Easy’ also manages to be long and boring, with a runtime of 100 minutes. Who knows, 20 minutes shorter and it may have been passable.
The beauty salon featured in the film is called “Curl Up and Dye”, which redeems it a little.
