10 VHS Tapes That Totally Lied To You
3. The Oracle (1985)
Starring nobody you’ll know - unless you have a really good eye and recognise Irma St. Paule, who made appearances in ‘Twelve Monkeys’ and ‘Thinner’ - ‘The Oracle’ is the story of a young woman, Jennifer, who moves into a new apartment where the previous tenant had been murdered.
Jennifer finds some spiritual apparatus (definitely NOT a Ouija board, as that would require permission) and decides to muck about with it, making contact with the spirit of the murdered previous tenant
This is not the intense horror movie that the box would have you believe it is. No, this is a slow, dull, cliché-ridden, underwhelming, sleep-inducing bore-fest.
Prepare for frights you've already seen in so many other movies. It's not the worst thing from director Roberta Findlay, mind, for that honour belongs to 'Blood Sisters' (1987). Still, in terms of promises not delivered, 'The Oracle' wins.
