10 VHS Tapes That Totally Lied To You
2. Fortress (1985)
Is ‘Fortress’ a good movie? Yes! Does what is depicted on the cover happen in the movie? Yes! So, what’s the problem? The problem is, this is not the action-packed 1980s 'Lord of the Flies' the cover wants to portray. Instead, it’s a well-paced, tense drama about a schoolteacher and her students suffering the traumatic ordeal of being kidnapped at gunpoint by masked men.
With the tagline “THE INNOCENT HAVE TASTED BLOOD… AND THEY LIKED IT”, you would probably be disappointed to discover this is not some kind of cool siege movie involving kids, feral with fear, defending their makeshift fort. Well, that does happen, for maybe ten minutes. The rest of the time sees the children and their teacher hiding in caves and singing.
There's no big transformation here. These aren’t all sheltered little brats who can’t handle themselves; these are rural Australian kids who know how to shoot.
This Australian made for TV movie features Vernon Wells (Schwarzenegger’s pal). who would go on to appear in another movie called ‘Fortress’ in 1992.
