10 Video Game Movies That Were Truly Terrible
6. Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Nudity isn't required to make a film good or even palatable. Yet a lot of reviews focused on this aspect when Resident Evil: Afterlife was released.
Undoubtedly sequels are hard to do, it is difficult to recapture the magic of the original film that has led to a studio demanding another film with a bigger profit margin. Making the fourth film is not four times harder than making a direct sequel but Resident Evil: Afterlife does make it look very difficult.
The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and many were excited by the directors return to the franchise as Anderson was responsible for the first film. Milia Jovovich also returned in her role as Alice but unfortunately, the film was cited by many as a generic journey that did not offer many variations to the tried and tested series.
There was still an audience though and this film managed to make an impressive profit despite its critical downfalls.
2010 was undoubtedly a bad year for video game films and another Resident Evil film couldn't save it. Although it doesn't seem like anyone was expecting it to. With that said there was a worse year in the proceeding decade that will give many video game fans horrific disappointment flashbacks from a time that they have undoubtedly tried to forget.
