After bursting into international recognition and acclaim for Trainspotting, Scottish actor Ewan McGregor ran the gamut of characters. However, many of the most memorable were heroic and likable, like Obi-Wan Kenobi in STAR WARS, Christian in Moulin Rouge, and Oliver in Beginners.

Possibly most sympathetic is his portrayal of Jesus during his 40-day fast in the desert in 2015’s Last Days In The Desert. In it, McGregor portrays a physically weakened Jesus struggling in psychological battle with the Devil.

McGregor recently played two brothers in the FX series Fargo, but it wasn’t the first time he played dual roles in a project. Who better to play the dark doppelganger to McGregor’s Jesus in Last Days In The Desert than McGregor himself? He taunts and needles Jesus, playing against only himself in many scenes and turning the battle of faith into an internal struggle for control in a tour-de-force set of performances.
