4. Mephisto

One character who definitely has connections with both the comic book Civil War storyline and Doctor Strange is Mephisto. In the aftermath of Civil War, after Spider-Man's Aunt May was killed as a result of Peter Parker outing himself as the hero, Parker sought out a way to bring her back. He encountered Mephisto and the demon said he would bring May back if Parker would sacrifice his marriage to Mary Jane Watson. He agreed and it was as if the marriage never happened. As unlikely as it is that Spider-Man will be involved in the movie, there are plenty parallel scenarios that could be created with other characters. Daniel Brühl could appear in human form for this movie, as a "mysterious stranger" who later turns out to be the monstrous demon. Perhaps, for example, Bucky dies in the Civil War and Captain America uses Mephisto to bring him back, only to suffer serious consequences that bring Mephisto forth in to this realm in his full demonic and most powerful form - at which point Doctor Strange needs to kick in to action to take him down. It's a long shot, but don't rule it out.
