10 Villains DC Movies Got Completely Wrong
8. Hector Hammond (Green Lantern)
Everyone knows bad CGI was the main villain in Green Lantern (and that's not just a reference to Parallax) but it wasn't the only evil the movie handled poorly.
It's take on Hector Hammond completely missed the mark, failing to tap into the tragic aspects of the character and instead fast-tracking his descent into generic villainy.
Green Lantern introduces Peter Sarsgaard's character as an eccentric loner, a timid man who's basically downtrodden from the first act. Throw in some unrequited love and the movie's recipe for villainy is complete.
Hammond's background essentially makes him a bad guy as much as the yellow energy of fear from Parallax, but never is he presented as a victim of circumstance, something that would have given the movie a semblance of depth.
Ryan Reynolds's Hal Jordan is everything Hammond: strong, courageous, good looking, witty (allegedly) - but the dichotomy between the two characters only brings out the worst in the hero, casting a reflection of smarmy arrogance from the dark mirror.
