If Joker is a long way down the line then The Batman Who Laughs is even further, because you cannot have one without the other. The Batman Who Laughs is a Batman from another universe where the Caped Crusader finally gives in to his urges and kills the Joker.

In this act he unwittingly releases gas from Joker which he then inhales and is slowly driven mad leading him to gun down the Bat family. It is no shock that since his inception in the Dark Nights event, The Batman Who Laughs has quickly gained huge popularity.

Having the psychopathic mania of the Joker mixed with the brains and cunning of Bruce Wayne is often too powerful for even the regular Batman to withhold. A villain like this would make for one of the most frightening Batman films in his cinematic library.

To play the Batman Who Laughs you needn’t go any further than the man already playing him. It wouldn't be as cool if - should the films go down the route of multiverses and the like - they get a different actor to play a different Batman.

Robert Pattinson has spent a lot of his post Twilight career exploring his abilities as an actor. Look at The Lighthouse to see that he’s perfectly capable of going completely crazy for a film, this is perfect for what is essentially an even more unhinged version of the Batman we all know.

Given Pattinson’s penchant for variety, he’d be more than willing to rise to the challenge of playing two roles in one film. He also gets to wear TWO Bat suits, what’s not to love?
