10 Viral Outbreak Movies To Watch While In Quarantine
6. Children Of Men
In 2027, no one has been able to reproduce for eighteen years. (Phew, at least this one isn’t entirely accurate.) Children of Men follows the journey of an immigrant, who has miraculously become pregnant, as she and protagonist, Theo, make their way from a dystopian London to the English coast.
This tale is all about the troublesome adventure these two take, as they avoid skirmishes with a radicalistic organisation, roaming gangs and authoritarian government soldiers. Humanity’s survival is at stake and making it to their rendezvous point is the only way they can ensure this happens safely; with the youngest person in the world having recently been murdered at just eighteen years old.
Their harrowing quest is a thrill-ride of an experience with neither Theo or Kee (the immigrant) being entirely safe or secure at any point throughout the film’s run time. This is a story about survival, society and desperate times leading to desperate measures.
It’s evident from early on in the film that the lesson to be learned is to trust pretty much nobody. Hardly anyone in this movie is exactly who they say they are. Stick to small groups, avoid the roads, and keep a secret stash of hand sanitiser to barter your way out of sticky situations.
