10 Wasted Star Wars Characters That Deserved Better
8. General Hux
A power-hungry senior member of the First Order, General Hux would have held much of the same gravitas as Grand Moff Tarkin from A New Hope - were it not for his petty rivalry with Kylo Ren.
This rivalry is mainly explored in The Last Jedi, where it's shown that both Hux and Ren are after the position of Supreme Leader. When Kylo Ren kills Snoke and claims his title, Hux is force-choked into submission, begrudgingly accepting his new leader but developing a burning hatred for the former Jedi.
This hatred is what leads him to become a spy for the Resistance by the time of The Rise of Skywalker. When questioned by Finn, he states, "I don't care if you win. I need Kylo Ren to lose." Though he attempts to cover his treason by way of letting Finn shoot him in the leg, he is sussed out and killed by General Pryde, who thereafter basically assumes Hux's role in the film.
The substitution of Hux for Pryde is pointless and an injustice to both characters. If the writers wanted an older character who served the Empire as well as the First Order, why not go with Pryde from the start instead of cutting Hux's story short and discarding him so casually?
