Looking back at 2015, calling it a disappointing year for superhero movies seems about right. Avengers: Age Of Ultron failed to live up to its predecessor, Ant-Man was good (but perhaps not as great as it would have been had Edgar Wright been at the helm), and Fantastic Four - which looked so promising for so long - might just be one of the worst comic book movies of all-time. 2016 on the other hand looks like it might just turn everything around with huge releases like Deadpool, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Gambit, and Doctor Strange. All of those are highly anticipated for very different reasons, and what we've seen from the majority of them is definitely promising and a sign that the superhero bubble won't burst any time soon. Why then will next year potentially leave fanboys so utterly disappointed?
10. Doomsday Will Be Plot Device
We may have only seen a glimpse of Doomsday in the latest trailer for Batman V Superman, but it's already become apparent that the villain is going to be used as little more than a plot device to give the heroes something to punch in the final act due to the movie needing to find a way to get them to put their differences aside and work together. He could have very easily held his own as the main villain of the Man Of Steel sequel, but it instead seems far more likely that the iconic monster is going to end up being an overlooked and probably quite minor part of a movie far too busy dealing with other characters and plot threads. Doomsday is already a big let down from a purely visual standpoint. Sure, there are theories that he's going to end up transforming into something a little closer to his comic book counterpart, but that feels like a reach. As it is, we're getting a Doomsday that looks like a cross between a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and The Abomination. Ever since it was first rumoured that the Superman killer would show up here, anticipation has been through the roof, but don't be remotely surprised to see him completely overshadowed. They really could have thrown any old CGI baddie into this role, but will instead waste Doomsday's big screen debut.
