10 Ways Avengers: Secret Wars Could Change The MCU Forever
4. Doctor Strange's Betrayal
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness furthered Wanda Maximoff’s character arc confirming her journey from Avenger to multiverse-threatening villain. She may not be the last hero to take something of a villainous turn before the Multiverse Saga is through, with the next potentially being the hero she fought for the life of America Chavez.
In the Secret Wars arc, though it is Doom who rules as God over Battleworld, he didn’t create it by himself. There were three men standing over the creation of this new world, and Stephen Strange could have proclaimed himself God. Instead, he stood as Doom’s right hand man.
This wasn’t a straight up villainous turn, as Strange saw the Latverian as the only way even the slightest semblance of a world could survive. He may not have liked it, but the options were nothingness or a life under the throne of Doom. Funnily enough, when the heroes of the Marvel Universe emerged from their life raft, including Reed Richards, they didn’t agree.
This could set up an interesting and morally difficult fight for the likes of the Avengers, the Guardians, the Fantastic Four, and even the Eternals. And just as Civil War weakened the Avengers before Infinity War, there can be no argument that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would be weaker having Doctor Strange on the other side of the battlefield rather than on their own.
