10 Ways Batman & Robin Changed Batman Movie History

1. It Ruined Mr Freeze Completely

The worst legacy Batman & Robin inspired was the negative effect it had on the image of Mr Freeze. Thanks to his portrayal in Batman: The Animated Series, the character was one of the cooler figures in Batman's Rogue's Gallery (after admittedly sillier early days), but it's almost unforgivable what the film did to him.

Taking The Animated Series backstory of his ill wife being his motivation, Freeze was transformed from a tragic figure into a shiny blue monstrosity, spewing puns and generally being a hugely embarrassing low-point in the franchise.

And worst of all, even though other Batman villains have had second goes on the big screen, neither Freeze nor Poison Ivy have been considered again. We might get to see Ivy in Gotham City Sirens, but it will apparently take longer to wipe out the ominous shadow of Arnold Schwarzenegger's portrayal of Freeze. And that's an absolute travesty.
