10 Ways J.K. Rowling Has Ruined Harry Potter
1. Made Her Characters Political
J.K. Rowling is pretty outspoken when it comes to her political opinions, which is fine. Public figures should absolutely be able to use their social media platforms and public appearances to speak their mind.
But Rowling decided to use her characters to express her political agenda back in 2016, confirming a joke from a user that Vernon Dursley would have voted Leave in the Brexit referendum.
It was probably meant to be funny and is ultimately pretty harmless, but using a character from a children's book series - no matter how foul the character - can be seen as a pretty bad way to get your agenda across. Even though she's within her right, it immediately transforms the characters from fictional escapism to real world examples.
With general attitudes towards Rowling and her treatment of her beloved series ever decreasing, stuff like this just doesn't bode well for its future.
