10 Ways J.K. Rowling Has Ruined Harry Potter
7. Aurelius Dumbledore
Speaking of The Crimes of Grindelwald, a new, five-part series means plot twists and new revelations aplenty. While the Nagini debacle is a separate matter, the one that really takes the cake is Credence being Dumbledore's secret brother.
This doesn't work for so many reasons, the main being that the entire crux of Dumbledore's family history explored in Deathly Hallows is his relationship with his brother Aberforth and sister Ariana. This certainly does not include his secret brother Aurelius that he's definitely going to find out about in the next movie.
It completely undermines the nuance of what we were led to believe were the dark personal struggles hidden from Harry throughout the series. We're introduced to a new conflict that's essentially just a cheap plot twist, but is also confusingly set in the past before the original series.
The problem is that we view Dumbledore in a new light after his death based on Harry's perspective. Harry doesn't know about Aurelius, so it doesn't matter.
It's retconning for the sake of family drama, and the fact that we're seeing it in the inferior prequel series kinda sucks.
