6. The Ron/Hermione/Harry Love Triangle Debate
There was a time when the only new bits of information fans had to work with in a post-Potter world was from Pottermore, and it was all pretty plain sailing.
But once Rowling became more of a personal presence for giving new information, she started to reflect on her plot points and decision making.
In an infamous interview with Emma Watson a few years ago, Rowling explained how putting Ron and Hermione together was 'wish fulfilment' for her younger self, and that she actually felt more of a connection between Hermione and Harry when writing Deathly Hallows.
This is a totally fair reflection for Rowling to have shared, and the problems don't lie in her revelation itself. Rather it lies in the years and years of arguing amongst fans that has dominated discussions around the characters. The long-time Harry/Hermione shippers felt validated against the Ron/Hermione shippers, and it's all just been a bit of a mess.
With arguments over whether the book's happy ending or Rowling's later doubts over her choice dictate the canon state of Ron and Hermione's marriage, this was the first real big time in the post-Potter space where fans could argue over Rowling's comments. And it would only get worse...
