10 Ways MCU Movies Were Almost WAY Darker
1. Iron Man: Demon In A Bottle
Tony Stark has always been a flawed, somewhat damaged character, thanks first to the unorthodox and strained relationship with his dad, solidified by being kidnapped, and flying into the literal void of space. At times throughout the MCU, Tony's playboy side has come out, and with it his issues with alcohol.
Iron Man 2 touched on this more so than any other movie, with Stark hitting the bottle too hard at his own birthday party, but Iron Man 3 almost built on this even more by adapting the infamous Demon in a Bottle storyline from the late 1970's.
One of the most well known stories in Iron Man lore, Demon in a Bottle shows Stark's descent into a real problem with alcohol, and the devastating effects it has on his life.
Naturally, Disney put a stop the idea for Shane Black's movie before it gained too much traction. It was enough to hint at Stark's issues in Iron Man 2, but basing an entire movie around alcoholism would have taken it to a place no Disney movie is ever likely to go.
