10 Ways MCU Movies Were Almost WAY Darker

2. Bruce Banner's Suicide Attempt

Though it was the second ever Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to be released, it's easy to forget that The Incredible Hulk is still part of the franchise. Starring Edward Norton rather than Mark Ruffalo, and absent from the Disney+ line up due to Universal owning the rights, it is certainly the black sheep of the family.

However, it has been referenced on several occasions since. Not only did Thaddeus Ross return to the franchise, Bruce Banner spoke to the rest of the Avengers on the Quinjet about how he tried to commit suicide.

This was more than just a throw away comment, as there was actually a scene shot depicting Banner's suicide attempt for The Incredible Hulk in 2008, that was ultimately left on the cutting room floor. The character hiked out into the mountains away from civilisation, and after having flashbacks to when he changed and hurt Betty, Bruce took his gun out to kill himself. It was only the Hulk turning up that prevented him from succeeding.

Talking about killing yourself is one thing, but actually showing a suicide attempt is something that fans didn't need to see.
