10 Ways MCU Movies Were Almost WAY Darker
3. Thanos' Backstory
There's no doubt that, despite it being labelled and marketed as an Avengers movie, Thanos was the star of Infinity War. Never before was the villain of such a movie given so much time, development, and depth. Thanks to this, Thanos became one of the greatest comic book movie antagonists of all time.
The Russo brothers almost gave the Mad Titan even more spotlight during the third Avengers movie, delving into the character's backstory and childhood. To the disappointment of many, the arc was ultimately cut, but from what we have been told since, we know there would have been a scene going all the way back to Thanos' childhood.
The story of the villain's younger years is nothing short of tragic. Though you'd be forgiven for thinking Titan was full of people who looked like Thanos, you'd be wrong. The huge, purple alien was looked at as a freak, and in the Thanos Rising comic, was subjected to his horrified mother trying to kill him just minutes after he was born.
Rhodey may have floated the idea of such a thing before the time heist in Endgame, but to actually see a mother try to kill her new-born son on screen would have taken the story to a far darker place than it needed to go.
