8. Not Sucking Up To Teachers

The attitude of "I'm the best thing that ever happened to movies" annoyingly enough doesn't end when you leave school. It's no secret that Hollywood has some of the biggest egos on parade. You would think these people were movie stars or producers, but actually sometimes they are lowly production assistants whose jobs are to make coffee and copies. Many teachers in film schools will be people from the production side of filmmaking who earned their stripes by cutting their hands on hundred pound lighting cables while wrapping them at 3:30 in the morning. These people (not all of them) generally have a chip on their shoulder from having to leave the industry to come teach at a school. My advice is don't treat them like equals or even people, but as movie making demigods. This will stroke their ego and they are more than likely to throw you a few bones and invite you onto productions taking place on the weekends. The student who treats them as equals (or regular people) will find him or herself with weekends free.
