10 Ways Sony Could Have Saved The Spider-Man Franchise Without Marvel

2. New Characters

With Gwen Stacy dead, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would have been without the Peter/Gwen dynamic that many loved about the first two movies. However, Emma Stone's departure also left the door open for new female characters to be introduced, with any number of possibilities. The Black Cat seems like the obvious suggestion, especially after "Felicia" was teased and there were talks of a female-led spinoff. Had Sony finally brought back The Daily Bugle, fans could have even been introduced to someone like Betty Brant. That would have opened up any number of new storytelling possibilities, and adding the likes of J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson to The Amazing Spider-Man series would have led to a totally new feel to the third movie. One possibility in that regard could have been JJJ hiring MacGargan to try and find out the identity of Spider-Man before he's transformed into the Scorpion by Alistair Smythe, who fans actually met in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
