10 Ways Sony Could Have Saved The Spider-Man Franchise Without Marvel

9. Go Ahead With Venom: Carnage

A solo movie starring Venom has been talked about for years now (since before even Spider-Man 3 was released, in fact), and so it came as no real surprise when Sony announced that it was finally happening last year. There were still those who believed it was never going to become a reality of course, but the fact that Alex Kurtzman was attached to direct was a sign that Sony did appear to finally be taking the property seriously. However, when Deadline broke the news of a female-led spinoff, they also mentioned that the title for Venom's movie was in fact Venom: Carnage, and comic book fans instantly knew what that meant. In order to give fans a break after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underwhelmed, Sony could have pushed forward with Venom and given Spider-Man a minor role, possibly helping set up The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Dropping the alien angle and following the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, imagine if the movie had revealed that Venom was another creation of Peter's father (possibly alongside Eddie Brock's dad) with the action then revolving around the slightly unhinged Eddie battling it out with Carnage. Spidey could have become involved in the final act - or played a small role throughout - by taking on both Venom and Carnage at the same time. Epic.
