10 Ways Star Wars: The Last Jedi Was Almost Completely Different
4. A Far More Obvious Finn/Rey Romance & Love Triangle
Back to Canto Bight, and another of Rose's audience-reflecting charms came from calling out the presumed "romance" between Rey and Finn. Now, coming off The Force Awakens I wouldn't say there's one iota of sexual anything between the pair - save for Finn randomly asking Rey if she has a boyfriend, only to drop it for the rest of the movie.
In The Last Jedi though, one of Finn's main motivations was to stay alive for Rey. You can hear him mention that he's "found something to fight for" in the early trailers after Rey is shown, and this carries into the beginning of the movie itself, as he attempts to flee the Resistance ship, taking the relocation beacon so Rey will return to him, and him alone.
In the cut material, alongside the "Fight for" line being axed, Rose actually calls him out on this, saying he's "Pining for Rey", only for Finn to claim that Rey is a friend, yet it's still her that he's surviving to meet back up with.
The scene ends with Rose saying "Whatever" apparently with a "hint of jealousy", but regardless, it would've kept Finn and Rey as a couple at the forefront of fans' discussions, rather than being discarded like it has been.
