If you're a comic book fan, you're probably already thinking, "What's the big deal?" After all, superheroes visiting alternate realities is a given in those, as are multiple timelines and futures (just look at the X-Men series). However, for anyone who doesn't know these characters like the back of their hand, things are about to get complicated.

The idea of a Multiverse alone is a hard one to get your head around, and many struggled with the complicated ideas that Avengers: Endgame introduced in that respect.

If casual fans and the people who just enjoy a good popcorn adventure start feeling that they're no longer being catered for, then it's less likely for them to be there on opening weekend. Marvel Studios has already made it clear people need to watch the Disney+ TV shows to understand what's happening in the movies, so the Multiverse could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

If Marvel can keep things simple, great. But is that even possible when it comes to exploring alternate worlds and timelines?
