10 Ways The Marvel Multiverse Could Kill The MCU
7. The Stakes Are Lessened
So, it's been established that death could become meaningless in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if there are countless other worlds out there, why should anyone care if one of them is destroyed? This problem has plagued DC Comics for years, with countless reboots killing off and bringing back characters to the point where no one really cares when that happens now.
When the Young Avengers assemble, for example, how much will it really matter when they battle Kang the Conqueror and he puts their entire reality at risk? If there are countless other worlds to choose from, then a future movie can just pick up with another version of the team!
There's nothing to say Marvel Studios is planning to take things down that route, of course, but if The Avengers can travel to another timeline to retrieve Infinity Stones that were destroyed, why should anyone care the next time the world is at dire risk? If someone steals an ancient weapon from Doctor Strange then, screw it it, he can hop to another world and get another one.
It's all just a bit weird, but the stakes in stories moving forward might not feel anywhere near as high with the Multiverse always there as a backup option.
