10 Ways to Make an Awesome Terminator Sequel

5. Recast John Conner

John Connor has been played by three different actors over the course of the franchise (four if you count the TV series) but none so far have been as good as Edward Furlong in Terminator 2. In an ideal world I would suggest recasting the original John Connor for the sequels, but Edward Furlong grew up a little strangely and isn't a good enough actor anymore to be able to pull off this role. Plus, physically, he doesn't look like the adult John Connor we imagined from the original film. Nick Stahl from Terminator 3 is a slightly better choice, but he has been having many personaly problems of late and again, probably isn't the right fit for John Connor anyway.

As much as the world loves Christian Bale, his portrayal of John Connor was without a doubt the worst acting performance I have ever seen Christian Bale give. There was absolutely no emotional depth or interest what so ever with this performance that I would go as far to say that Christian Bale, despite being the better actor of the three people who played John Connor, is the worst John Connor to date. Physically he may be better for the role, but I think he is just too famous for the part... never did I think he was the same John Connor from the other movies and that is a problem.

This is why I would suggest casting a virtually unknown actor in his 40's for the role of John Connor in the sequel, with younger actors in their 20's for the role of his grandparents (or who ever they end up being) in the future. I would also suggest casting an actor who looks at least a little like a grown up version of John Connor from Terminator 2. Although I'd probably prefer someone completely unknown in this role, an actor like Billy Crudup wouldn't be all that terrible.
