10 Ways What If... Could Change The MCU
1. What If The Snap Was Swapped?
Finishing the list as we started with a story focused around Thanos and the Snap. Rather than dealing with the after effects of the timeline as we know it (or knew it, at least), this one could flip the script completely.
Thanos’ plan to kill half of all life is a very simple one to What If; What If he killed the other half?
There’s been some suggestion that thanks to plane crashes, car accidents or incidents in hospitals, there’s a good chunk more than 50% wiped out, but let’s just focus on the heroes for now.
In this storyline, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and the rest all get turned to dust. Conversely, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther and Spider-Man all survive.
Obviously this scenario puts a wrinkle in the ‘Doctor Strange foresaw the outcome’ subplot which sees him giving up the Time Stone willingly. However, either through his death, Thanos tricking him or just by Strange’s knowledge and potential acceptance that they’re in a losing scenario due to some unaccounted for variable, this What If is too interesting to simply write off.
Endgame showed some unexpected dynamics working well together and this What If could do the same.
