10 Weirdest Moments In The Early Days Of DC Movies
7. Supergirl, Starring Faye Dunaway And Peter O'Toole
Speaking of slapstick messes, if Superman IV: The Quest For Peace wasn't bad enough, some genius managed to cook up an even more ill-fitting continuation of the Christopher Reeve Man Of Steel. Namely, giving his long-lost cousin her own film, and never bothering to explain where she had been all of these years. The title role in Supergirl was played by Helen (no relation to Christian) Slater, who nobody remembers. Somehow, in a coup akin to getting Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando in the Superman films, they managed to surround the novice actress with genuine stars. Such as Peter O'Toole, and Chinatown's Faye Dunaway. Despite technically being canon with the Reeve Superman films, the actor never makes an appearance, and the movie is left out of all boxsets of the series. Even The Quest For Peace gets a look-in there. Maybe it's because O'Toole played an alien in a granddad jumper and Dunaway was a witch. Not a witch-like supervillain, an actual witch.
