10 Weirdest Moments In The Early Days Of Marvel Movies
8. Sci-Fi Original Man-Thing
Lumbered with perhaps the most unintentionally hilarious name in comic book history (especially when coupled with the tag-line Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch!), Marvel's monstrous swamp creature also tends to pale in comparison to, well, DC's Swamp Thing, a character that emerged almost simultaneously. The latter, however, took off instantly. Man-Thing floundered throughout his publication life-span, whilst his Distinguished Competition was graced with early storyline from Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. Even those solid-gold writers couldn't rub off on Swamp Thing's film adaptation though, a Wes Craven joint that had as much of a budget as it did sense. As such, it took Man-Thing (whose shtick is...basically the same as Swamp Thing's) a lot longer to make his leap to live-action. But leap he did! Or, more accurately, stumble he did into a Sci-Fi original movie that aired on the cable channel in 2005, with the titular creature's make up effects straight out of 1975, and a schlocky B-movie horror feel. Not good.
