6. Bjork - "Dancer In The Dark"
Lars Von Trier is weird. Theres no getting around it. Theres a fine line between insanity and genius, and the Scandinavian director has gleefully played jump-rope with it ever since his first picture. His unorthodox style has polarised both audiences and critics for years, and his record of raising eyebrows continued in 2000 with his documentary-like musical drama Dancer in the Dark. After convincing Icelandic superstar Bjork to write the soundtrack, Von Trier then managed to force her to take up a role in the film. Not just a bit-part either, but as the protagonist. Understandably reluctant given her lack of experience in acting, Bjork went ahead anyway. Despite doing extremely well in the role, she found it so exhausting that she swore itd be her first and last big acting job. Dancer in the Dark therefore managed to both create and kill an acting career for Bjork all at once. Bizarre.
