4. Green Day - "The Simpsons Movie"
The Simpsons Movie was so eagerly anticipated that people were singing Spider-Pig before the film had even rolled into cinemas. The much-quoted trailer had threatened to give away Homer & Cos best big-screen moments, so it was a nice (albeit strange) surprise to see Green Day pop up at the beginning of The Simpsons Movie in yellow-drawn form. The punk band put a rocking spin on the world-famous theme tune by Danny Elfman, as they open the film performing a gig in Springfield. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong is seen consulting the teleprompter for the lyrics Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da, before asking for a moment of the crowds time to talk about the environment. Outcry ensues, drummer Tre Cool is almost castrated by a thrown stone, and the trio go down on their floating stage barge Titanic-style. Its outright wacky, and is followed by a funeral service honouring the latest rock band to die in Springfield, which comes complete with an organ-style version of American Idiot.
