10 Weirdest Movie Crossovers Ever
6. Tom & Jerry & The Wizard Of Oz
Yep, things kick up a notch from this point onwards. The four entries prior to this can be hand waved away as being not particularly strange; a couple of them could even arguably not qualify as true crossovers.
From here on out though, things change. Everything here is Property A meet Property B meet blender.
First up, it’s Tom & Jerry getting mixed up with The Wizard Of Oz. If you squint a little (maybe a lot), you can kind of see the reasoning. Both are classic properties, full of instantly recognisable characters and have a similar, something for all ages appeal to them.
There’s also the fact MGM don’t have a plethora of properties at their disposal to shuffle around to team up. With The Wizard Of Oz coming out in 1939 and the cat and mouse duo debuting in 1940, they were at the height of their popularity together too.
This however means very little when you consider that this crossover came out in 2011, well after either franchise has plateaued. Still though, it’s obviously a successful business model as it was followed up by a Robin Hood crossover with Tom & Jerry, then a Wizard Of Oz crossover sequel.
