Another entry in the perplexing and disjointed Cloverfield film series, The Cloverfield Paradox takes us far above the Earth and onto a space station in orbit, which harbours a particle accelerator capable of ending the planet’s energy woes. Unfortunately, it is also capable of opening portals to parallel universes where monsters and horrors and who knows what else can peek through and give us a good ol’ spookin’.

Despite the lofty setup, The Cloverfield Paradox is a film about a small group of people – the astronauts on board the space station.  There are engineers and physicists from across the world, gathered in the interest of preventing global energy wars and restoring unity, stability, and a sense of community. However, they’re faced with some hard choices that tear this apart even within their limited confines.

One such decision comes when they discover Mina Jensen (Elizabeth Debicki), an unaccounted for engineer, fused with wires inside a wall. The attempt to rescue her while not damaging the ship is grim and gory, but they get her out eventually - even if they wish they hadn’t. How she got into the wall and why she is onboard at all are two of the film’s mysteries, but suffice to say this isn’t the strangest thing to come.
