10 Well Known Actors Who Got Worse Over Time

While she began her career in modelling, Sharon Stone was a massive rising star in the eighties and nineties. A slow rise to prominence ensued with films like Above the Law, Action Jackson and Total Recall paving the way.

Yet her breakout performance came with 1992's Basic Instinct, her second collaboration with Dutch director Paul Verhoeven. Thanks to a seductive and sensual performance, it was Stone's finest hour. She went on to achieve several award nominations and became a major A-lister for the next eight years.

The actress would maintain a high reception for the rest of the nineties, most notably with appearances in Casino and The Quick and the Dead. At the turn of the millennium however, she would go on hiatus following a subarachnoid haemorrhage. Upon returning to the movie-making scene, things grew more complicated from a quality standpoint.

The early 2000s saw the actress featuring in many box office bombs, including the atrocious Catwoman alongside Halle Berry. It was Basic Instinct 2 that marked her downfall in 2006. A widely panned sequel, this clunker consigned Stone to lower budget releases like Streets of Blood and Border Run. She rarely reached the success she had before and has turned to the small screen instead.
