10 Well Known Actors Who Got Worse Over Time

4. Robert De Niro

Best known for playing budding gangsters, Robert De Niro started off with two all-time classics in Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, both of which were helmed by longtime collaborator Martin Scorsese.

De Niro's greatest success was becoming one of the most iconic leading actors in the crime genre. Mean Streets, The Godfather Part II, The Untouchables and Goodfellas proved he was a force to be reckoned with in the decades following his big break.

The nineties would prove to be the final flourish of the actor's performing peak as films like Heat continued the momentum. In the lead-up to the 2000s, however, De Niro would suffer a major downturn. Most notably, his appearances in shallow comedies failed to make use of his talents. Come the 2010s, things got even worse.

De Niro has fallen far appearing in the likes of Little Fockers and Dirty Grandpa, dreadful films that dragged his reputation through the mud. It's only recently that he's been able to bounce back with 2019's The Irishman, an introspective mob flick that once again reunited the actor with Scorsese.
