10 White Zombie/Rob Zombie Songs Inspired By Horror Films

4. What?

Album: Hellbilly Deluxe 2

References: What? was an alternate US title for Mario Bava’s 1963 film The Whip And The Body (“What is her terrifying secret? Is she the victim of a madman? Or a dead man? You must see WHAT?”), starring Christopher Lee, so the lyrical references to Fu Manchu and Hammer Films are probably not coincidental.

Similarly, the song samples dialogue from The Child, a 1977 horror film that owes a debt to George Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead. Not only is Romero’s film seen playing on a television in Zombie’s Halloween 2 (2009), but The Child’s dreamlike visuals also seem to have influenced the film’s monochrome dream sequence.

Dialogue Samples: “I want to know who you’re meeting in the cemetery.”

“I don’t have to tell you anything.”

- The Child (1977)
