10 Wild Ideas For The Hulk In Phase 5

1. Avengers: World War Hulk

World War Hulk
Marvel Comics

The comic book version of the World War Hulk storyline began with Planet Hulk, when Earth’s self-appointed protectors, the Illuminati, exiled the Hulk into deep space after one too many rampages. Settling on Sakaar, the Hulk becomes its king - but his queen and unborn child are killed and, blaming Earth’s heroes for their deaths, the Hulk returns to earth with a cadre of alien warriors at his back with only one thought on his mind: to break the world.

Part of the Planet Hulk storyline has already been adapted for the MCU as part of Thor: Ragnarok - so engineering an MCU version of World War Hulk as a brand new Avengers film in Phase 5, with an enraged, heartbroken Hulk taking on the Thanos role, will require some adjustment to the storyline.

It’s not necessarily important how they get there, but it needs to begin with the inevitable - Bruce Banner’s ‘solution’ to the Hulk problem going south, with the reappearance of the savage Hulk persona - and end with an impromptu convention of Earth’s mightiest heroes defeating and banishing the Hulk, and in doing so, accidentally hurting or even killing someone he loves.

Another dimension, another world, a prison cell a mile underground - wherever it is, in Avengers: World War Hulk, Bruce escapes. Banner and the Hulk are of one mind once more, and that mind is driven to a terrible revenge.

The madder the Hulk gets, the stronger he gets. The Worldbreaker Hulk has come...
